Fertilisation failure: In IVF/ICSI, the eggs cannot be fertilised or can only be fertilised poorly
Under normal circumstances, it should be possible to fertilise around 4 out of 5 mature eggs during an ICSI/IVF cycle. If the fertilisation rate is significantly lower, this is referred to as partial or even complete fertilisation failure and in this situation you must expect significantly reduced, possibly even completely absent chances of pregnancy! With regard to an urgently required optimisation, it is of the utmost importance to know the possible causes of fertilisation failure and to eliminate them: Can the stimulation treatment, the dosage of medication or the timing of ovulation triggering be optimised ? can the partner be better prepared? Are technical causes conceivable? Rarely, there are also individual causes of fertilisation failure in women or men that may not be treatable. These should also be known so that they can be taken into account when planning further treatment.
If you have experienced fertilisation failure once or even several times, it is often worth having a detailed and independent assessment of possible influencing factors and causes. I offer you the opportunity to review all previous treatment cycles in detail with the aim of assessing the situation for the next time and optimising it as far as possible.
