The Balint group concept was developed by the doctor and psychoanalyst Michael Balint and is now an integral part of medical training: In a working group of 8-12 doctors, experiences and thoughts as well as the interaction and also the feelings in connection with a specific patient are reflected upon. In the group process, the participants pay attention to their own thoughts, feelings and fantasies with the aim of better understanding the patient and their diagnosis together on the basis of a psychodynamic concept of illness. The group is led by an experienced doctor and psychotherapist.
